Rathbone Trade Park

Completion in sight for phase one of £100m Liverpool Shopping Park

Companies on Binns Road Industrial Estate in Liverpool will move to new purpose-built facilities later this year, as developer Derwent Group prepares to complete phase one of the new Liverpool Shopping Park.

Work is well underway on the £100m shopping development, which spans the site of the former Edge Lane Retail Park and the land occupied by Binns Road Industrial Estate.

The new industrial and trade counter units being prepared for the Binns Road businesses will form the 32,000 sq ft, 20-unit Rathbone Trade Park.

Caddick Construction, Derwent’s appointed contractor, has cleared the site and begun erecting the steel work.

The new units are due for completion by December, with firms expected to relocate from the end of 2016.

Derwent’s group chief exec, David Lyons, said: “By creating these new units we’re not only giving local businesses new and improved facilities but freeing up the land we need to deliver our vision for Liverpool Shopping Park.

“We are investing £100m in Liverpool, bringing an extensive retail and leisure offer to this part of the city and delivering multiple regeneration benefits including the creation of more than 3,000 jobs.”

He added: “The relocation of these businesses is integral to our regeneration plan and we’re delighted that all tenants will move to the new facilities. Work is progressing very well on site.”

Wavertree Electrical is among the businesses moving to Rathbone Trade Park.

The company’s managing director, Lisa Byrne, said: “We’ve been based in this part of the city for a long time so it was important for us to stay local.

“The move lets us take advantage of new facilities and gives us much more space, plus, by moving we’re doing our bit to support regeneration in the area.”

She added: “That can only be a good thing.”

Derek Burman from Elegant Bedrooms, which is also set to relocate, said: “We are excited about this move which helps us grow our business and double the space we currently have.

“We are long established in the area and are looking forward to seeing the area redeveloped.”

Hailed as ‘the final piece of Liverpool’s retail puzzle’, Liverpool Shopping Park will comprise 727,000 sq ft of mixed-use commercial space and 41 retail units along with a 1500 parking spaces.
