Loveshack refurbishment to bring new bar to Durham city centre
Refurbishment work at Durham city centre’s Loveshack Nightclub is paving the way for a new bar to join the city’s ever-expanding leisure and nightlife scene.
In the first phase of a two-part regeneration project at the site, found in the Walkergate Leisure Complex, new venue ‘My House’ will open out onto the Walkergate area’s lower level piazza offering outdoor, sheltered seating.
Work is set to be completed by the end of the month, with the new establishment creating 25 jobs. The venue will play host to its own events and live acts and will have a separate DJ and music policy to the Loveshack Nightclub, which already currently employs 60 members of staff.
The remainder of the venue will still be operating as Loveshack until the second phase of the refurbishment starts, which is planned for 2017.
This will see Loveshack given a makeover and a rebrand while remaining a nightclub, meaning that before, during and after this process there will be no alteration to its opening hours.
Debbie Corbett, General Manager, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of My House, bringing something fresh and unique to Durham as well as a range of job opportunities for the city.
“Loveshack is now into its tenth year of trade and has certainly done us proud over the years – we have hosted some unforgettable nights and events!
“But all good things must come to an end and we realise that it’s now time to update the décor and move with the times. Using the space at the front during the day is an amazing idea and the plans for the new build are very exciting.”
Debbie added: “We can’t wait until it’s completed and I’m sure our customers will all love the finished article!”
