Last chance to enter Tri Liverpool

Tri Liverpool, the world-class triathlon event that takes place in Liverpool on Sunday, August 14 will close for entries at midnight on Wednesday July 27, 2016.

Taking place across Liverpool’s world heritage waterfront, Tri Liverpool returns for a fourth year on Sunday, August 14, with this year’s event boasting record numbers of amateur and elite participants.

Over 1700 amateur athletes have already signed up, with limited places in the GO TRI+ beginner distance and relay up for grabs. Entrants will race the same course as elite athletes and paratriathletes hoping to score valuable points in the British Championships. 6000 spectators are also expected to line Tri Liverpool’s looping urban course, which passes iconic landmarks including Pier Head and Albert Dock, with transition inside the Echo Arena.

Jack Buckner, CEO of British Triathlon said, “2016 has so far been a record breaking year for the number of people wanting to get involved in Tri Liverpool. We have waiting lists for both the standard and sprint races and only a few slots left for those wanting to either get a taste of the triathlon experience through the GO TRI + Beginner wave, or team up for a sprint relay. And in Olympic and Paralympic year, what better time to get involved with the sport?”

Paralympic hopefuls will race for the final time on UK soil before heading to Rio in September, with elite athletes competing for a sought-after British title. Famous faces taking on the course this year include BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin, former Big Brother winner Craig Phillips and Hollyoaks actors Karl Collins (Louis Loveday) and Jared Garfield (Nathan Nightingale).

Jared Garfield, who is taking on the triathlon for the first time, said, “I’ve never been shy of a physical challenge. I’ve always played football, I’m a dancer and I love cycling as my way of commuting. Signing up to Tri Liverpool has given me a great challenge to work towards, which combines lots of my favourite sports. My cast mates who have taken part in the past have convinced me that it’s one of the best events in the country - so it would be rude not to when it’s on my doorstep!”

Wendy Simon, cabinet member for culture, tourism and events said, “Liverpool, like the rest of the nation will be in the midst of Olympic fever by the time Tri Liverpool begins in the city. It promises to be a great day out for sporting fans to cheer on elites and amateur triathletes. Expect a carnival-inspired fiesta atmosphere, with big screen action, music and a festival feel throughout the whole Tri Liverpool weekend.”

Entries for Tri Liverpool close at midnight on Wednesday, July 27. To sign up or for more information, please visit www.TriLiverpool.com.
