New Zealand tech startup to launch in Hull’s C4DI

A New Zealand tech startup business has chosen to launch its software in Hull due to the support available from city’s C4DI digital innovation centre.

Hubscope software uses visualisation diagrams to show multi-million pound IT projects how relationships between different departments, people and technology are all inter-connected.

Steve Dickinson, the company’s co-founder who originally hails from the region, has worked across the world for IBM and more recently with New Zealand’s version of the national grid, Transpower.

Steve said: “I moved to New Zealand 13 years ago and have worked on many different IT projects during my career. They nearly always go over budget and get delayed because of a lack of coherent communication between the IT team and the business side.

“The solution which I’ve come up with allows everyone in the team to contribute and for anyone to visually see how everything connects. I’ve been working on the concept and the technology for over five years now so as you can imagine it’s really very exciting to be here and finally release it to the world.”

John Cant, a Hull based start-up consultant has been working with Hubscope for nine months, commented: “In addition to marketing, my role is talking to potential customers to help shape the product. Being a member of C4DI has enabled me to do that as it’s made connecting with the right people easy.

“It’s a fantastic space and everyone here is always so generous with their time and advice.

“I’m very proud to be working with the team in New Zealand and it shows that having world-class facilities like this in Hull really is helping to boost the region globally.”

Steve added: “I’ve still got family in the local area so if I decide to relocate back to the UK then Hull would definitely be a strong contender to base the business.”

Hubscope is also aiming to expand and distribute its product globally.

Steve concluded: “All over the world, IT projects go over budget. Our aim is to help as many companies as we can visualise their projects better to help save them money - whether they’re in Hull, Wellington or anywhere in-between.”
