Housebuilder aids Alex's fund
A five-year-old from Castleford is one step closer to a life-changing operation after receiving a donation from a leading UK housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire has selected Alex Craven’s fund to receive £1,000 as a part of its Community Champions scheme, which seeks to support groups and charities working to improve quality of life or environment for the community.
Alex, who was born eight weeks premature, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was nine months old, as he failed to meet physical development milestones.
It is hoped that the operation, which will be carried out in St. Louis, America next July will allow freer leg movement.
Sarah Craven, Alex’s mother, said: “We are over the moon to have been chosen to receive £1,000 for Alex’s Fund.
“We have to raise £60,000 for the complex operation which could be life-changing for our son, as it may help him take his first steps.
“The donation is another step closer to reaching our target, so we are very grateful to Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire for their generous funding.”
Wayne Gradwell, managing director for Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, said: “We are very proud to be supporting Alex’s vital operation, which we hope will be a life-changing one.
“Alex’s family and friends have been working extremely hard in their fundraising for the operation and we really wanted to support this with our Community Champions initiative.
“If applicants were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire is building a range of new homes across West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire with sites in Barnsley, Huddersfield and Penistone.
