Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema in line for share of £17.5m Arts Council funding
Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema is one of 140 English projects that will receive a share of the Arts Council England’s strategic funding programme Catalyst Evolve.
The £17.5m initiative aims to support organisations to attract more private giving. The programme offers match funding to incentivise charitable giving, whilst investing in the skills, capacity and culture of organisations to enable them to raise philanthropic income.
Catalyst Evolve funding will enable the Tyneside to invest in new fundraising tools and technology, helping them to increase the scale of their fundraising activities and to more effectively communicate and develop relationships with their supporters.
The new funds raised plus matched Catalyst Evolve funds will significantly increase the Cinema’s resilience and sustainability as an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation (NPO).
Lucy Armstrong, Chair of Tyneside Cinema’s Board of Trustees said: “We believe, that with the help of this programme, we have a clear and significant opportunity to build on Tyneside Cinema’s current fundraising activities.
“This will allow Tyneside Cinema to continue to provide the people of the North East access to a programme and destination where they can see, learn about and participate in film, artist film and film heritage.”
Matt Hancock, Minister of State for Digital and Culture, said: “British art and culture is among the best in the world. We want to see it thrive.
“That means continued public funding, which is a critical underpinning. And it means increased philanthropic and private investment has a vital role to play in their continued success.
“Catalyst Evolve uses public investment to attract more private funding, meaning we all get more bang for our taxpayer buck. I am delighted that it will help these fantastic projects to develop resilient, sustainable fundraising models.”
