Opus celebrates 10 year anniversary with record results

ONE of the region’s fastest growing building services companies increased turnover by 54% to announce record results for 2015.

Opus Building Services confirmed that turnover had increased to £10.5m with the key drivers of growth being expansion in the education, health, leisure and commercial sectors.

The company which is celebrating its 10th year in business in July is also buoyant about the future, predicting further expansion nationally and projecting sales will top £20m within 5 years.

Boldon based Opus Building Services started with MD, Gavin Richardson based in the BIC in Sunderland in 2006, before moving onto the Quadrus Centre and then to new headquarters in Boldon Business Park two years ago due to continued expansion. With a growing order book outside the region the company is now considering opening a satellite office in London.

Employee numbers rose by c10% during the period with the recruitment of skilled professional staff and apprenticeship numbers expected to rise further in 2016 to support a burgeoning order book and planned growth. Opus Building Services employs more than 80 full time staff as well as additional part time and contracted workers. Managing Director Gavin Richardson said: “Opus Building Services has delivered record results because we consistently deliver for our valued clients. Our success is down to hard work of our staff, labour force and suppliers having a can do attitude.

“It’s great to hit the £10.5m milestone in our tenth year and I have no doubt the next £10m will come in half the time. Opus is now in the top 3 in terms of size in the northeast, which is a fantastic achievement.

“Our growth has come from all sectors from health and education to commercial and leisure projects. Our skilled workforce are now regarded as go to specialists, particularly when it comes to complex projects for health care institutions that have life critical demands and projects that demand a higher level of service and delivery.

“Our health sector experience includes every hospital in the North East of England and we are now on the national NHS frame work established by London NHS procurement portal, which was a tremendous coup in securing future projects and growth.

“We also have exceptional experience across the region in education from the refurbishment of halls of residences and new student accommodation in Newcastle and Durham, to leading edge laboratories in Sunderland, extension works at Middlebrough College and Newcastle University Medical School, to a multi-million pound building services and repair contract with South Tyneside College.

“In the last year we’ve also worked on some landmark commercial projects in the region from the Stephenson Quarter in Newcastle, the new Hilton Garden hotel in Sunderland to BOHO College in Middlesbrough.

“I am delighted that business growth outside the region has also continued to grow and we’ve won a number of significant contracts in London, which is also driving business success.” Opus Building Services provide specialist electrical, heating and plumbing services across a range of sectors including; commercial and retail, healthcare, education, sports and leisure as well as industrial and manufacturing.
