Yorkshire accountants announce autism support

Ilkley-based Wintersgill Associates has announced its dedication to raising funds for an Airedale and Wharfedale autism support group.

The award winning accountancy practice is partnering with AWARE, Airedale and Wharfedale Autism Resource, to carry out a number of fundraising activities, including tackling the Yorkshire three peaks in September, to raise awareness around children and young adults on the autistic spectrum.

Aiming to raise £2,000 for the charity, Wintersgill Associates was inspired to support Ilkley Carnival beneficiary AWARE after hearing about its great work in the local community and the support it provides to the affected.

The team of business advisors will also be helping with craft activities at an Addingham support group for autistic children, siblings and friends over the summer.

Managing director of Wintersgill Associates, Paul Wintersgill, said: “We are thrilled to be working with such a great cause this year and with some of the Wintersgill team having close links with the organisation it was the natural choice for our fundraising focus. Together with AWARE, we can raise the sort of money that will help make a difference to families who are caring for children and young adults with autism in and around Ilkley.

“It’s a great way to immerse ourselves into the community and we hope other local businesses will support our efforts and get involved too.”

The chartered accountancy practice will continue to support AWARE throughout 2016 by hosting a fundraising event for local enterprises at Ilkley Cinema and participating in team challenges.

Project Manager at AWARE, Jo Galasso, said: “We were over the moon when Wintersgill Associates approached our group to see how they could help.

“AWARE truly is a lifeline to many parents and families in our area. The support we can provide for children and young adults on the autistic spectrum helps maximise their potential and gives them a kick-start towards adult life. With almost 300 members and 34 volunteers, the funds raised by Wintersgill Associates will help us continue our services as the group continues to grow.”
