Far East to North East: Chinese delegation visits Port of Tyne

As North East firms are continuing to explore trade links with the Far East, officials from the Chinese province of Guangxi Zhuang visited the Port of Tyne last week to develop business relations.

The three week visit to Newcastle included 21 executive directors and business leaders from South Central China.

Delegates are now set to visit Newcastle University and a number of regional manufacturing businesses, with the prime objective of exploring strategies for connecting land and sea trade routes.

Steven Harrison, Port of Tyne Chief Operating Officer, said: “We were pleased to welcome the delegation.

“They were interested to learn more about the Port of Tyne’s infrastructure developments and access to worldwide markets”.

During their tour the visitors took the opportunity to tour the Port’s Tyne Dock Estate and visited the recently completed Riverside Quay extension and its car terminals.
