The Gym comes to Frenchgate Shopping Centre as it embarks on expansion plans

The Gym chain has announced it is to open a new location at Doncaster’s Frenchgate Shopping Centre as the leisure destination continues to expand its vendor line-up.

Taking a 21,000 sq ft unit, the no-contract fitness operator is due to open in November and will bring its total number of UK gyms to over 80 across the country.

It comes at a time of significant expansion for the South Yorkshire shopping centre, which has welcomed Patisserie Valerie and Ed’s Easy Diner this year as part of its £2.75m investment plans.

The Partnership, which operates the shopping centre, has also announced that Chinese food outlet Chopstix Noodle Bar and Graveley’s fish and chips would each be taking 1,250 sq ft and 2,500 sq ft sites respectively in Q4.

Following The Gym’s announcement, The Frenchgate Limited Partnership’s Asset Manager Paul Devlin commented: “We are delighted with the addition of the Gym Group who will add huge depth to our offer and further enhance our appeal as an exciting retail and leisure destination.

“This letting sits perfectly with our strategy of diversifying the line-up, with a focus on providing more exciting options for our local shoppers, and in turn increasing dwell time at Frenchgate.”

John Treharne, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Gym Group, described Frenchgate as the ‘perfect town centre location’ for the gym brand.

He added: “The broad range of well-established retail and restaurant outlets already attracts a high volume of people. Adding our award winning, low cost, 24-hour gym will enhance centre’s appeal and provide local residents, workers and shoppers with an affordable and convenient place to get active.

“All being well, The Gym Doncaster should be welcoming people through its doors this side of Christmas.”
