Work underway for Sand-tastic show on Broadway

The Broadway Shopping Centre in Bradford welcomed a team of local sand artists into the Centre this weekend to begin work on a very special summer project, to be unveiled to shoppers later in the week.

Alice Truswell, duty manager at The Broadway accepted a delivery of three and a half tonnes of sand as preparations began for three specially commissioned sculptures made by the artistic sand sculpting team, Sand In Your Eyes.

The entire project has been inspired by the City of Bradford and will take a total of seven days to complete, ready for customers to see on Friday 5 August. The Broadway is inviting people from across the region to come to the centre and view the artwork as it takes shape, to see if they can guess which iconic Bradfordian landmarks and faces are being created by the talented team.

Ian Ward, general manager of The Broadway, said: ‘We’re excited to have the Sand In Your Eye team at our centre creating these amazing sand sculptures, which will stay in the centre for the rest of the summer. We’re sure customers will be impressed to see it all taking shape this week and encourage everyone to come and see the finished sculptures on Friday 5 August.’

Jamie Wardley, artistic director of Sand In Your Eye, says: ‘It’s great to be making sand sculptures back in my home town of Bradford, particularly in our new shopping centre The Broadway.

‘We’re looking forward to seeing if shoppers can correctly guess what sculptures we’re making, and hope everyone can make it down to the centre to see us put the final touches on them on Friday’

The Broadway’s three sand sculptures have been specially created to mark exciting announcements about upcoming summer activities in the centre.
