Music lovers generous to the Graham Wylie Foundation
Music lovers made every note count by raising £1800 for the Graham Wylie Foundation’s ’Rock n Raise’ arm at the Times Square Weekender. Acts including Ocean Colour Scene, Fatboy Slim and Maximo Park encouraged gig goers to donate to the charity while enjoying the three-day gig.
The weekend event came just weeks before the Foundation’s own first major fundraising gig. Run, Rock n Raise, billed as the Great North Run’s official after party is taking place on September 11th.
Money raised will go towards the Foundation’s aim to help, educate and inspire vulnerable and underprivileged children in the North East. Rock n Raise has been set up to help not only the Graham Wylie Foundation, but the Teenage Cancer Trust and music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
Ocean Colour Scene not only donated a signed framed photo to raffle, Steve Craddock from the band drew the winning ticket, they also encouraged VIPs on their guest list to donate, while volunteers from the Foundation were on hand with collection buckets throughout the event.
The Graham Wylie Foundation, which is the official charity partner of Live at Times Square, is now gearing up for its own gig, set to feature performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, Kodaline and Lisbon at the Metro Radio Arena.
Foundation CEO Angie Jenkison (correct) said: “The promoters should be more than proud for putting on such an exciting weekend in Newcastle. Everyone was extremely generous; we all know how music can change lives so it seems very appropriate that the money raised will go toward using music to help the most isolated and vulnerable children in our region
“We’re now definitely in the party mood and can’t wait for our own gig in September, where we’ll be combining some fantastic music with raising money for the Graham Wylie Foundation.”
Times Square Weekender organiser and owner of Newcastle-based SSD Concerts Steve Davis said: “We are delighted that our events throughout the year will be able to have a positive effect on people within this region and massively appreciate the help all at the Graham Wylie foundation have given us so far. We hope this can grow into a long relationship and that music lovers in the North East can help support this amazing cause.”
The Foundation was launched earlier this year by entrepreneur and philanthropist Graham Wylie, who founded software firm Sage. It is one of the rare few charities anywhere in the world to give 100% of all money raised and donated to good causes, as Graham is meeting all running costs out of his own pocket.
Applications for grants are invited from charities and organisations which help children and young people in the North East. Grants may be given for equipment, projects, staff or buildings, which will benefit groups of children or young people and which will continue to do so well into the future.
Run, Rock n Raise tickets are available at metroradioarena.co.uk/events/run-rock-n-raise-making-every-note-count or from hotline (0844) 493 6666 Run, Rock n Raise starts at 6.30pm on Sunday September 11th, with tickets costing £25 and £35.
