Strong sales at Donwood Glass create 12 new Gateshead jobs

Glass products manufacturer Donwood Glass has taken on 12 new members of staff at its Gateshead production facility, following an uptake in sales.

The rise in sales over the last year is largely down to the firm investing in an upgraded production line to boost capacity. Additional contract wins coupled with repeat custom has also supported growth according to Director Andrew Donnelly.

Andrew said: “We’re thrilled with the successes that this year has delivered Donwood so far, and being able to create new jobs within the business is particularly rewarding.

“As a family-run business which originated in here the North East, we’re dedicated to making sure we reinvest in the local economy and people here in Gateshead and across the wider region.

“To ensure we can continue to play our part in the local economy, we’re always looking for ways to adapt to market changes and diversify. In doing this we are able to support growth to allow us to expand and improve our offer for our clients and customers.”

He continued: “Donwood Glass offers competitive lead times and delivery of our high quality products, and taking on additional staff members will allow us to continue being able to provide this and meet customer’s high expectations, despite any increase in demand for our products.”

The business, which provides a range of processed glass, products including insulated glass units, toughened safety glass and architectural and bespoke glass, is also looking to fill further roles.

Andrew added: “We anticipate that sales will continue to grow into the third and fourth quarters of 2016 and we’re looking forward to seeing where the expansion of our on-site technology, equipment and of course, investment in the Donwood team will take us.”
