Supporter of wildlife charity launches in Germany

People’s Postcode Lottery, the charity lottery which, to date has supported more than 344 good causes, including a wildlife charity in this region, has now launched in Germany.

The ‘Deutsche Postcode Lotterie’ is now up and running across Germany, allowing neighbours to win prizes whilst supporting charities local to them.

The concept of the unique social lottery has been a great success for many years in the Netherlands, Great Britain and Sweden. Having raised almost £6.2 billion for good causes over a period of 26 years, thanks to its players, People’s Postcode Lottery is the third largest charity donor in the world.

For many years, the Postcode Lotteries have been supported by a number of prominent ambassadors throughout the world, including former president of the United States Bill Clinton, tennis player Rafael Nadal, actor and human rights activist George Clooney and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize and former Archbishop of South Africa Desmond Tutu.

In this region, Northumberland Wildlife Trust, one of the UK’s Postcode Lottery’s charity partners has, to date, received a whopping £919,940 from its players, which has supported a wide range of conservation and people engagement projects ranging from surveys for otters and dormice, forest school activities for children from urban schools and events for local communities to repairs on many of the wildlife charity’s 60 nature repairs following the floods of December 2015 - many of which would not have been possible without player support.

The Trust is currently running a number of summer holiday events which are being supported by players of the charity lottery.
