Housebuilder supports community radio in Cotswolds
A community radio station in the Cotswolds has secured a grant for new state-of-the-art equipment, following a donation from a housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes South Midlands awarded £750 to North Cotswold Community Radio, as part of its Community Champions initiative which sees local community groups and charities benefiting from a donation of up to £1,000 every month.
The radio station began broadcasting 10 years ago, providing a voice for local people and organisations by enabling them to convey their messages. Over the years, the station has been supported by numerous volunteers providing an opportunity for individuals to learn new skills as well as supporting work experience students.
Robb Eden, station founder, said: “It is always good to receive grant funding from organisations that recognise the importance of community radio stations, such as ours. Without this type of funding we would not survive.
“We actively engage in the community and help promote local events, such as our recent outside broadcast at the Classic Car weekend at Cotswold Motoring Museum.
“Persimmon Homes’ donation will go towards buying much-needed new equipment to ensure we can continue our work.”
Carol Selway, head of sales at Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “North Cotswold Community Radio provides such a valuable service to the community.
“Our Community Champions initiative is a great way for us to give something back to the local communities where we are building, such as Greenacres in Bishops Cleeve and Alderton Grange in Tewkesbury, which is being built by our sister company, Charles Church.”
The Persimmon Community Champions initiative is a national programme where charities and groups can apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Carol added: “We’ve made it really simple to apply and would encourage other groups and charities to apply by visiting www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
