Blackburn munitions factory transformation to create 97 jobs
Plans to transform an old munitions factory into a 49,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme could create dozens of employment opportunities in Blackburn.
Acting on behalf of RSM Restructuring Advisory LLP, real estate firm CBRE’s planning and development team secured detailed consent for the project from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.
The redundant 4.5-acre site, located on Roman Road in Lower Darwen, will be transformed with three separate buildings to be utilised for research and development, light industrial or storage and distribution use.
Once complete, the units will have capacity to create around 97 full-time jobs, in addition to spin-off opportunities associated with the construction process.
Edward Harvey, a senior planner based at CBRE’s offices in Manchester, said; “We are delighted to have secured planning permission for the regeneration of this disused site.
“The scheme will have direct regeneration benefits for the local area through the creation of employment opportunities associated with the construction and operation of the development.”
Property consultancy WHR has been appointed as the agent for the site.
