Oldham gym creates eight jobs with NatWest funding

A gym based at Oldham Athletic Football Club’s Boundary Park stadium has created eight jobs since launching earlier this year with funding from NatWest.

Glo Gym, which overlooks the club’s pitch from the North Stand, includes 150 cardio- and resistance-training stations, as well as a dedicated free-weights area and fitness studios.

Open 24 hours a day throughout the week, the firm also offers free member parking and WiFi.

Stuart Lockwood, the chief executive of Wellbeing Leisure, is the man behind the project.

He said: “Since opening in April we have experienced steady footfall at Glo Gym particularly before and after the working day which you would expect.

“We expect to see even more new members as we approach autumn and winter, and with the start of the new football season.”

He added: “Oldham Athletic has been very supportive of us, with some of the team coming in to train with members.”

To support Glo Gym during its first few months of operation, NatWest provided the business with further financial maneuverability in the form of a large overdraft facility.

Wellbeing Leisure boss Stuart and his team worked with NatWest senior relationship manager Ash Richardson to secure the initial funding.

Stuart said: “NatWest and Ash have been very good to work with. NatWest understood the needs of our business at this early stage in our development and have provided a funding solution to fit our requirements.”

Ash commented: “Glo Gym has gone from strength to strength in its first few months of operation.

“The gym is an asset to the community and we wish the business every success for the future.”
