L-R: Jonny and Rachel Wilson with Barclays' John Darkes

Rossendale Holidays invests £100k in Lancashire glamping site

Leisure operator Rossendale Holidays has invested £100k in a new glamping site in Lancashire.

The company, run by Jonny Wilson, Rachel Wilson and Michael Armstrong, received support from Barclays to invest the six-figure sum in new glamping pods, a shower block and a children’s activity park.

Discussing the expansion, Jonny said Rossendale Holidays, which already lets out holiday cottages and ensuite bedrooms, wanted to “offer something slightly different, more quirky”.

He explained: “Glamping has been around for several years and is now fairly established in many parts of the UK, but there didn’t seem to be anyone offering it in this area.

“The demand is there for people to go on holiday, to be close to nature and in the great outdoors, without the hassle of having to bring their own tent and also to places where they can still enjoy a few luxuries.”

He continued: “It is about giving people more choice, appealing to those holidaymakers who want to escape the confines of a hotel or B&B.”

Barclays’ business manager for the Rossendale area, John Darkes, supported the investment.

John commented: “Glamping is certainly a sector within the tourism industry which has gained momentum and significant media profile over the last couple of years.

“The industry has marketed itself as bringing all the excitement of the great outdoors with the benefits of home comforts, a long way from many consumers’ camping perceptions of leaking tents and interesting toilet arrangements.”

He added: “With beautiful scenery and stunning landscapes, Rossendale Holidays is ideally placed to attract additional visitors to the area and I wish Jonny and his team every success with the new venture.”
