Telecoms to teeing off on the Trilby Tour

THE managing director of a North East telecoms and IT provider has beaten off competition from more than 1,000 opponents to reach the final of a prestigious amateur golf tournament.

Chris Lee, of B2B telecoms company CCS, has qualified for the World Final Championship of the Trilby Tour golf tournament, which will be broadcast across the UK by Sky Sports to more than 2.5 million people.

The competition, now in its tenth year, is the largest amateur golf television series in the UK and Europe and is an experience self-professed golf fanatic Chris is eagerly awaiting.

He said: “I’m delighted to have qualified for the final – I entered the North West heat in Worsley thinking it would just be a great day out and ended up coming fifth out of more than 140 players.

“Anyone who know me knows how much I love golf and this is an amazing opportunity and an experience I’m sure I won’t forget. I’m aiming to do the North East proud at the finals.”

The regional championships of the Trilby Tour 2016 have been held at Marriott golf venues across the UK over the last few months, with the final taking place on Wednesday 31 August at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club in the West Midlands.

The competition was originally set up by William Hunt, founder of the luxury menswear clothing range, with competitors kitted out with clothing, a golf bag and of course the iconic trilby hat that gives the competition its name, ahead of the grand final.

When he’s not on the green, Chris is the face of Sunderland-based telecoms company CCS. He has worked in the industry since the mid-1980s and in 1989 supplied and installed the very first mobile car phone in the North East.

CCS has grown to become one of the largest telecoms providers in the region, priding itself on offering its customers a high-quality, ethical service.

This winning formula has meant that Chris and the team at CCS have been able to create trusted partnerships, with a diverse, long-standing client base that includes Nike, Hays Travel, Russell Hobbs, Flymo, Sunderland AFC and Newcastle International Airport.

He will be hoping to achieve the same success on the golf course as he has in the boardroom as he battles it out to become Trilby Tour Champion 2016.
