A* results for A-level students and investors
There were A* results in the North East on A-level results day – for students and landlords alike.
The overall A-level pass rate in the North East was named highest in the country at 98.5% - with the number of students in the region getting A* or A rising to 22.1%.
National averages fell for the fifth successive year.
There was a double results day celebration for Sunderland as the city was also named the UK’s top location for landlords who let to students.
A study from a leading mortgage lender found the city to landlords letting in Sunderland will benefit from an average rental yield – the highest in the country.
Durham, Newcastle and Middlesbrough also all featured in the top ten investment locations, boasting returns for property investors of 5.2% and 5% respectively.
The study also named Sunderland the cheapest place to invest in student buy-to-let, with the average cost of a home standing at below £100,000.
Ajay Jagota of North East-based sales and lettings firm KIS and insurance backed deposit-free renting solution Dlighted responded to the news:
He said: “Student centres are always a compelling option for property investors due to the reliable demand for rented homed and the new tenants arriving every academic year – and with five internationally renowned universities attended by over 100,000 students so close together there can be fewer compelling regions than the North East.
“That’s before you consider the fact that North East properties continue to be the most affordable in the country.
“Students contribute significantly to the local economy and academic accommodation plays a huge role when it comes to bringing run down properties back into use and supporting local businesses.
“Alongside some highly impressive A-level results for our region’s teenagers, this is all very good news for the region.”
KIS are famous for being the first letting agents in the UK to abolish deposits, replacing them with a one-of-a-kind landlord insurance policy offering guaranteed rent, deposit replacement, legal assistance and round the clock third party emergency home repairs.
Named Letting Agent of the Year in 2013, the company expanded into sales the following year.
