Skin blistering charity boosted thanks to housebuilder’s donation

The charity DEBRA that supports people affected by a painful skin blistering condition has been awarded £500 by Persimmon Homes. Persimmon Homes Severn Valley donated the cash to DEBRA as part of the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme. The charity provides support to individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – a painful genetic skin blistering condition which, in the worst cases, can be fatal. There are at least 5,000 people living with this devastating and currently incurable condition in the UK. Persimmon Homes’ Community Champions scheme supports good causes, charities and clubs by providing £2,000 for each region to give away for a positive outcome. Sue Davison, Bristol based Community Fundraising Manager for DEBRA, said: “DEBRA works to support people with EB by providing specialised healthcare, practical and financial support and funds research to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB.

“We are currently looking to raise money to host a social event in Bristol for people in the city and around Bristol with EB. It would be a chance to get together, swap knowledge and share experiences.

“This event will help so many people and I’m delighted that Persimmon Homes has supported our cause.”

Nicola Hill, sales and marketing director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, added: “We’re pleased to support DEBRA. They carry out great work in the community and they were the perfect candidates for Community Champions.

“Their planned event will help so many people who have this condition and we hope our contribution can go some way to boosting the support for those with EB in and around Bristol.” For charities and community groups wishing to apply for Community Champions they can visit www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.
