Snowsport Scotland Launches New Scottish Park & Pipe Indoor Open

National Governing Body - Snowsport Scotland – has launched a brand new Scottish Park & Pipe Triple Crown which will determine this year’s overall Scottish Park & Pipe Champion.

Already anticipated to attract an extremely high calibre of skiers and snowboarders throughout Scotland, the Triple Crown comprises of three individual events, with the first event – Scottish Park & Pipe Indoor Open - to be held on the 10th September at Snowfactor, Braehead.

The Triple Crown Champion will be determined based on British Snow Tour (BST) points accumulated over the three events, which include an Indoor Open – the first event to take place – a Dryslope Open, at Bearsden Ski & Snowboard Club, and finally a Mountain Open, at Cairngorm Mountain.

And with exceptional GB Park and Pipe riders signed up to compete, the events are already promising to showcase some of the country’s best talent.

Speaking about the launch of the new Triple Crown, Graham Mounsey, Snowsport Scotland’s Development Officer said: “We are delighted to be launching the Triple Crown, which we firmly believe will become the events to be at this season.”

The events emerged following a consultation earlier this year with clubs, coaches and facilities involved in Park & Pipe competitions and training programs to develop a new and improved way to determine the overall Scottish Park & Pipe Champion on an annual basis, and we believe we have done just that by launching the Triple Crown.

“The new format of the event will be performed across 3 surfaces; indoors, dryslope and snow. This approach will mean that we can judge the best all round athlete in each discipline who will be crowned champion;” Graham said, “And with some great sponsors onboard, who will be contributing to the extensive range of awards, cash and prizes that are up for grabs by all competitors, we anticipate that there will be an excellent turnout and we are very much looking forward to awarding the title of Scottish Park & Pipe Triple Crown Champion to a very deserving winner.”

Competitors will have the opportunity to enter into the individual events, by which their points will still contribute towards BST rankings. To be in with the chance of winning fantastic prizes, including cash and to be awarded with the title of Scottish Park & Pipe Triple Crown Champion, competitors need to participate in all three of the events.

The Scottish Park & Pipe Indoor Open will follow on from Snowsport Scotland hosting its annual, highly anticipated Scottish Dryslope Alpine Championships.

Taking place on the 3rd and 4th September at Midlothian Snowsports Centre – which houses the UK’s longest dryslope - the event forms part of Snowsport Scotland’s Summer Alpine Series and is open to skiers of all ages.

Speaking about the Alpine Championships, Rob Claridge, CEO at Snowsport Scotland said: “Historically the Alpine Dryslope event has always proven to be a huge success, and we are expecting this year to be no different. The event offers a great opportunity for keen snowsports enthusiasts and competitors to get together and share this unique experience. In an event like this we see outstanding comradery, as well as competitive streaks shining through. The atmosphere encourages entrants to compete at their highest capabilities, often achieving outstanding results.”

Saturday 3rd September will consist of slalom races for minis (U10/U12) and seniors. At the end of the day the popular Team Dual Slalom will also take place. A GS race will be held on the second day for all ages. An awards presentation will take place at the end of both race days.

Competitors can register online for all of Snowsport Scotland’s events at www.snowsportscotland.org. Entrants into the Dryslope Alpine Championship have until 1st of September to register. 8th September is the deadline for all entrants to compete in the Park & Pipe Indoor Open.

Snowsport Scotland aims to facilitate and encourage participation in snowsports whilst building and supporting a strong club coaching structure. They help to deliver top quality coach and instructor training programmes which aid the development and nurturing of Scottish and Great British snowsport athletes.
