Builders move in on 158-home Sawmill Court scheme in Ancoats
Construction efforts to create 158 new apartments in the Ancoats area of Manchester are now underway.
Developer Manchester Life and building firm Eric Wright Construction have this week (August 23) confirmed the start of foundation works for their Sawmill Court project.
The site, bordered by Jersey Street, Bengal Street, Murray Street and Blossom Street, will be transformed into a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom homes for rent.
In addition to the apartments, Sawmill Court will comprise a residents’ courtyard, gym, club room and secure parking facilities with enough space for 80 cars and 128 bicycles.
Further, the scheme will create eight street-level commercial units.
The executive chairman of Manchester Life Development Company, Marty Edelman, said: “Sawmill Court is going to be a transformative development for Ancoats.
“The residents’ courtyard and onsite facilities and services will make this a flagship rental property for the area, and the anticipated commercial tenants will provide exciting new options for Ancoats residents.”
Marty added: “Eric Wright have a track record of delivering sophisticated urban developments, and we’re looking forward to completing this special development for Ancoats.”
Sawmill Court will be constructed close to other schemes from Manchester Life, including the 28 apartments and three townhouses for sale on Hood Street at One Cutting Room Square, and Murrays’ Mills, the Grade II-listed mill complex being turned into 124 apartments for sale.
Eric Wright Construction’s managing partner, John Wilson, commented: “Manchester Life is transforming the areas of Ancoats and New Islington into a fantastic new place for people to live.
“We are excited to be involved in this scheme which will offer high quality accommodation, playing a big part in the much needed regeneration of the area.”
