Dewsbury bed manufacturer continues to expand with latest acquisition
Shire Beds, the Dewsbury-based bed manufacturer and wholesaler, is expanding its manufacturing facilities for the second time this year.
The company has completed the acquisition of a third building near to its existing factory headquarters on Netherfield Road.
This new move will enable Shire Beds to begin production of a new range of roll-up mattress products.
Supported by funding from Royal Bank of Scotland, the acquisition will provide the firm with 60,000 sq ft of additional space to accommodate the production of a new roll-up mattress product range called ‘Roll & Rest.’ The new range is set to launch this month.
The acquisition comes only a few months after the firm bought a second building on Netherfield Road which it has adjoined to its original HQ.
The two purchases total a £2.5m total investment in the area so far this year, providing the firm with 100,000 sq ft total production space.
Established in 1997, Shire Beds is a family business run by founder Safdar Hussain, his daughter Fara Butt and son-in-law Sajid Butt. The company manufactures and supplies beds, mattresses and headboards for wholesale to retailers across the UK and Ireland.
Fara Butt, marketing director of Shire Beds, said: “The business is going from strength to strength and as a result our requirements for production space are increasing. I am thrilled with the new premises.
“The additional space will enable us to continue to grow the business and will provide us with the opportunity to develop and enhance our portfolio so that we can offer customers a more comprehensive range of products.
“The space we acquired earlier on this year has already enabled us to increase output by 40% and now with the addition of the new building, our production capability is set to double.
“Once again the support we have received from Lindsay Crooks and the team at Royal Bank of Scotland during the acquisition process has been excellent. They are completely behind us and our plans for growth and have worked brilliantly to facilitate this expansion.”
Lindsay Crooks, senior relationship manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, added: “Shire Beds has achieved significant growth during the last few years and I am pleased that we have been able to support the company with funding for their latest acquisition.
“The new premises will provide plenty of extra space to accommodate production of new and existing product lines.”
