Inside the former Carcraft hypermarket

Home Bargains owner selects Pochin’s for £5.4m Liverpool regeneration project

North West construction firm Pochin’s Ltd has secured a multi-million pound contract to deliver a regeneration project for T.J. Morris, the owner of discount retail brand Home Bargains.

The £5.4m agreement will see the Middlewich-based building company convert the former Carcraft hypermarket in Liverpool for commercial use.

Located directly east of T.J. Morris’ Home Bargains HQ, which Pochin’s has expanded in a deal worth over £10m, the 115,000 sq ft Carcraft site will become a new training centre along with two bulky goods retail units.

Further, the property’s existing training facility will be transformed into offices.

The project represents a collaboration between the construction specialist, planners from Liverpool City Council and Coventry-headquartered AJA Architects.

Jim Nicholson, the chief executive of Pochin’s, said of the deal: “We are extremely pleased to be working with T.J. Morris again on this new development that will no doubt play a vital part in the continued growth of Home Bargains.

“Pochin’s involvement demonstrates our continued commitment to working with some of the region’s most reputable businesses and our desire to continue building good relationships with the people we work with.”

T.J. Morris’ operations director, Joe Morris, commented: “The proximity of the former Carcraft site to our headquarters makes it a prime location to significantly expand our presence and enhance our facilities for staff training and retail purposes.

“Given the quality of our existing relationship, and their knowledge of the site, Pochin’s were the obvious partner for us.”

He added: “We’re looking forward to seeing the development up and running in the near future.”

The scheme is due for completion in April 2017.
