Chorley-based Glendale begins work on Gatwick contract
Glendale, the North West green services provider, has started a four-year grounds maintenance contract at the UK’s second-busiest airport.
The Chorley-based firm’s work at Gatwick will including grass cutting, weed control, shrub bed maintenance, meadow conservation and woodland management. The brief has created 10 permanent jobs.
In total, Glendale will be responsible for 348 acres of greenery located between runways, taxiways, aprons and paved surfaces at Gatwick, which serves more than 40m holidaymakers every year.
To deliver the contract, Glendale’s team of specialists will adhere to the strict guidelines established by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in relation to airside grassland.
Glendale has experience in working with large airports, having already carried out projects at Gatwick, along with Heathrow, Stansted and Southampton.
Jon Eglin, Glendale’s contract manager, said: “As this is a contract in which Glendale has previous experience, it means there’s existing knowledge of the site and surrounding area, as well as the specialist skills required to ensure the highest standards are met.
“An airport is often people’s first impression of a country or region, so it’s essential to ensure it remains looking its very best.”
He continued: “There’s also the hugely important aspect of making sure all areas are correctly maintained to prevent birds and wildlife causing potential danger and disruption to the smooth day-to-day running of the airport.”
