Together raises nearly £3,000 for charity Walthew House

Walthew House, an independent charity supporting people in Stockport with sight or hearing loss, has received a cheque for nearly £3,000 from Cheadle-based finance group, Together.

The money was raised through a series of weekly collections after a colleague, Ruth McCumesky, who volunteers at Walthew House in her spare time, nominated the charity for a fundraising focus month.

The charity was founded in 1882 and is supported almost entirely by donations and volunteers. A total of £2,948 was raised by the specialist lender and this will contribute to the refurbishment of the charity’s resource centre, which is expected to be completed in January 2017.

David Bond, fundraiser for Walthew House, commented: “Given that we rely on donations to provide our services and activities, it’s great for us to get support from local businesses like Together. We’re especially grateful to the colleague who nominated us – it’s really wonderful to know that our work in the community is valued and appreciated.”

Kevin Fisher, HR director at Together, said: “Giving back to the community is fundamental to us at Together, and our weekly charity collections, which are coupled with a weekly dress down day, provide colleagues with the opportunity to nominate the charities that are particularly close to their hearts.

“We are delighted to be able to support Walthew House and are pleased that the funds raised will help make a real difference to the facilities available for those in the local area.”

Together has a strong focus on charity and community with a range of ongoing initiatives. In recent months it has donated over £15,000 to Cheadle-based St Ann’s Hospice, and over £26,000 to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, to help with the refurbishment of its bone marrow transplant unit.
