Up and coming Gateshead architects secure Greenwich masterplan work

North East-based architects’ practice, Northpoint Architects, have won a new contract to design a building in the heart of one of London’s biggest development projects.

The Gateshead firm have been chosen to design the Estate Service Centre in the heart of London’s Greenwich Peninsula, as part of a major 20-year redevelopment which will see 15,000 new homes built on public land surrounding the O2 Arena.

Masterminded by developers Knight Dragon, the £8.4bn project is set to deliver a new community on one of the largest chunks of public sector land with offices, leisure facilities and a film studio all planned for site

Northpoint were appointed to the project by the developers back in May, and now a planning application has been submitted for the building which will act as an infrastructure hub at the estate, providing office space along with waste disposal and parcel distribution services for the site.

It marks a significant coup for the RIBA Chartered Practice which was only established in 2014 after it grew out of building and property consultancy, The Robertson Simpson Group.

Since then the practice has was on a number of projects, both in the North East and further afield, and is currently working on plans for a new 28 acre care village project in China

Northpoint Architects Director, Joe Moore, believes the Greenwich project is a marker for how far the firm has come in such a short space of time.

He said: “This project is a great opportunity for us and shows how far we have progressed since establishing the practice 2 years ago.

“We are very proud to be a North East firm involved in such a significant scheme and hope that we will be able to secure further projects on the Peninsula, and in the Capital, going forward.”

Work is due to start on the Estate Service Centre in early 2017.
