Rossendale’s Grip & Go invests in £30k climbing wall

A climbing centre in Rossendale, Lancashire, is preparing to help budding climbers reach new heights with the installation of a new wall.

Grip & Go, based at the Adrenaline Centre in Haslingden, is investing in a £30k wall measuring 9m by 6m.

Once complete, the apparatus will give climbers the chance to develop their skills and gain a National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) qualification, in addition to abseiling qualifications.

Grip & Go is already home to 18 different themed 7m climbing walls and other aerial facilities.

Rachael Kershaw, the company’s marketing officer, said: “The new walls will provide an opportunity for visitors to the centre to try their hand at more advanced traditional climbing.

“We are always looking for ways to make improvements to the services we offer, and by making this investment we feel we will be able to cater for climbers who are more advanced.”

She continued: “The wall can hold four climbers on auto-belay lines at the same time, each three different routes to climb. This means that there will be a total of 12 different routes up the wall that can be changed at any time.”

“The holds are made from different types of resin which look and feel like real rock, the wall will be mainly used for lead climbing, but can also be used for top roping. The wall has also been designed so that it can be extended, which is something that we have considered for the future.”

Work on the new wall will start on September 19, with Grip & Go closing for one week while the installation takes place.
