Viridian Housing looks to Reduce Arrears through Predictive Technology

Viridian are a housing association providing social housing to over 16,000 properties spanning across London and the south east, the Midlands and West Sussex. They have deployed Mobysoft’s Rentsense solution to help them maximise their income resource and reduce arrears.

Viridian has successfully reduced their arrears over the last five years. However, with welfare reform affecting residents’ ability to pay rent and Universal Credit being phased in across the country, Viridian was still keen to speed up the reduction in their arrears in spite of the environmental challenges.

“Our arrears have been reducing, but not as quickly as we would like. We have a relatively small resource to collect arrears and want to be able to maximise their time, which Rentsense will help with,” commented Simon Hague, Head of Housing, at Viridian. “And as the sector changes, it was important to us to provide colleagues with the tools to help them do their jobs efficiently.”

Rentsense is a predictive analytical application that accurately projects risk and flags which tenants have or are predicted to miss payment. Many social landlords are turning to Rentsense to help them mitigate the challenges of ongoing welfare reform.

“We have carried out a lot of work to mitigate the impact of welfare reform but recognise that with Universal Credit the biggest impact is yet to come,” explained Hague. “I expect Rentsense will provide focus for our officers, saving their time and allowing them to focus on cases that need attention. Ultimately I am looking for a further reduction in our arrears.”
