Prime Minister Theresa May tells US business leaders 'please feel free to invest in the UK'
While visiting New York for her first United Nations General Assembly meeting, Prime Minister Theresa May focused on reassuring US investors that Britain is still open for business after Brexit.
On Monday, May met with senior business chiefs from Goldman Sachs, IBM, morgan Stanley and Amazon and told them to “please feel free to invest in the UK”.
May told the business leaders: “Every working day in the United Kingdom one million people wake up and go to work for an American company. And every day in the United States one million people wake up and go to work for a UK company.”
She added: “So you see there is reciprocity. The UK is going to be out there. We will be looking for business. And ladies and gentlemen, please feel free to invest in the UK.
May also urged the business chiefs to tell her what issues they wanted to be tackled during Brexit negotiations. The Prime Minister claimed she would strike a strong trade deal with the European Union.
The US is the largest single inward investor into Britain.
