Entrepreneurial brothers break £10m sales as investment fuels growth at energy supplier
Business gas and electricity supplier, D-ENERGi, has announced it is set to create up to 100 jobs in Manchester after exceeding its £10m sales target.
The business, which was founded by Mancunian brothers Shak and Zico Ahmed in 2002, has also secured a £1.5m funding package from HSBC which the siblings hope will fuel further growth at the energy supplier as it hopes to expand into a medium-sized enterprise.
D-ENERGi already has plans to diversify its product offering to include water and renewable energy, and is exploring the possibility of buying gas and power higher up the supply chain from generators and traders to help drive down costs for its clients.
Director Zico said that the pair set themselves an ‘ambitious’ sales target of £10m two years ago, a figure which they have now surpassed, whilst growing their headcount to 50.
He commented: “We are simply not a small business anymore, and this would not have been possible without HSBC’s continuous support since 2014. This exciting news comes as we mark our 15th anniversary year, making us more determined than ever to further grow the business in the future.”
Jason Trigg, HSBC’s Area Director for Mid-market Enterprise in Manchester, added that the Manchester firm was exactly the sort of business the bank looks to invest in.
He said: “From its inception, D-ENERGi has proved to be a highly successful company. It is certainly the kind of ambitious organisation we would actively support to take their business to the next level.
“We look forward to working with D-ENERGi in the years to come as it continues to diversify and achieve its business objectives.”
