FIFA-backed physio app launches crowdfunding campaign ahead of US expansion
Sports physio startup Train My Athlete has launched a new crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs as it looks to crack the lucrative American sports market.
The startup, which was founded two years ago by Physiotherapy graduate Liam Hayes, has already been backed by FIFA and is currently used by big English football teams like Chelsea, Newcastle and Sunderland.
Acting as a central hub through which physiotherapists and sports scientists can manage their athletes, the app gives medical professionals the ability to communicate with athletes when face-to-face communication is not feasible, and includes features such as diet plans, workout planners and training analytics.
After attracting some big name backers in the UK, including Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot, the app has now launched a £150,000 crowdfunding campaign on crowdfunding platform Seedrs as it looks to expand into American market as well as NHS and private orthopaedic hospitals.
Launching today, the campaign has already attracted over 10% of its target amount at the time of writing.
Commenting on his inspiration for the app, Liam said: “Whilst working with elite athletes I was surprised to see medical departments resorting to paper plans or whatsapp messenger groups to communicate their plans, which seemed time consuming, confusing and unprofessional for the athlete.
“It made it impossible for the whole medical team to work together for the athlete. Train My Athlete gives medical professionals just that, by connecting the Physio, the S&C coach, the medic and the athlete all in one place.”
