Autonomous AI startup seals £1.5m seed funding with backing from Passion Capital
Cambridge-based PROWLER.io has secured £1.5m in seed investment from some big-name investment firms, as it looks to further develop its artificial intelligence (AI) platform.
The startup is developing an AI engine that utilises machine learning algorithms that it claims will significantly improve the quality and development speed of AI decision making systems.
London’s Passion Capital along with Amadeus capital and Singapore’s Infocomm Investments all contributed to the seed investment in the firm, which will now get to work building a prototype version of the platform.
PROWLER is looking to crack the gaming industry with its ‘reinforcement learning’ AI system, targeting games developers initially before widening its efforts to more sectors including autonomous vehicles, smart city tech and robotics.
Vishal Chatrath, Chief Executive Officer at the startup, said that the $100bn gaming industry provides an ideal entry point for its AI technology.
Touching upon some of the benefits to the industry, Chatrath commented: “As well as being extremely labour-intensive to build, they also deliver a substandard experience for gamers: NPCs don’t evolve as the game environment changes, for example.
“With so many games now relying on extended playing time to generate revenue, it’s more important than ever for developers that games don’t become boring or repetitive.
“Sophisticated AI and machine learning is the best way to create and deliver that experience, and can reduce cost at the same time. It’s a win-win.”
Eileen Burbidge, who is a partner at Passion Capital, added: “We invested in PROWLER.io because we see near limitless use cases for next-generation machine and reinforcement learning to revolutionise industries.
“From smart city infrastructure to agriculture to drones, in the very near future powerful artificial intelligence is going to change the world we live in for the better.
“The huge potential of the technology combined with the calibre of the PROWLER.io team make this a very exciting proposition.”
