Sussex residents urged to come forward with inspirational rides
With more than two million people across the country now cycling at least once a week1, GB’s Chris Froome winning the Tour de France, and Laura Trott taking gold in Rio, it is fair to say that the ‘bike bug’ has hit the UK. On the back of this Station Garage in Sussex is putting together the county’s very own ‘as recommended by locals’ cycle guide and is now calling out to Sussex residents for their top route suggestions.
Station Garage is no stranger to the two wheeled sporting trend. As a family-run garage in Horsham - who this year has celebrated 30 years as an official Skoda dealership - they are fully on-board with Skoda’s rich history in cycling as the car manufacter actually started out as a bike firm over 120 years ago! In fact, the brand still make bikes to this day and even sponsors various cycling events around the world including The Tour de France, RideLondon, The Tour Series and the Tour of Britain, to name but a few.
Station Garage’s new cycle guide aims to bring together the best routes and cycle tracks in the county in an all-round guide for local cyclists from beginner to professional level. They are also hoping to include recommended rest stops along the way including glorious countryside picnic spots or the perfect place to pull up and take a break with a refreshing pint or glass of wine.
James Thorpe, Dealer Principal at Station Garage in Horsham, commented:
“With Skoda’s rich cycling heritage, the ever-growing popularity of the sport and some of the most beautiful scenic routes right on our doorstop, a Sussex cycle guide seemed like the perfect item for us to create. The guide will be free of charge for all cyclists to pick up from the garage or download from our website. We plan to feature at least 10 different routes within the guide and these will cover all abilities. With the addition of the recommended dining and refreshment stops it should really shine a spotlight on how wonderful and suitably accommodating our county is for enjoying a trip out on two wheels.
“We are calling out to the public for their route and rest stop suggestions - we want this to be the resident’s guide to Sussex cycling, almost like a trip advisor for cyclists but something that both locals and Sussex’s tourists will pick up and enjoy.
“We really want to include as many options as possible so whether people want to put forward their top routes for a leisurely Sunday ride with the children, the most challenging hill climbs for professionals or even the best woodland tracks for off-roading - we want to hear about all of them!”
To put forward a suggestion for a cycle route or rest stop please email stationgarage@pmwcom.co.uk. All suggestions will be posted on Station Garage’s Facebook page and the public will be invited to vote for the top 10 routes with accompanying rest stops to feature in the guide.
Please note: the deadline for suggestions is midnight on Sunday 23rd October.
