New development set to boost jobs in Somerset

The local economy is set to receive a boost as the creation of a new housing development in Taunton is set to underpin around 270 jobs.

Barratt Bristol, which is working on its Northwalls Grange development in Priorswood, says the roles will include tradesmen, subcontractors and sales advisers and that most jobs will be filled by local people.

It comes as research shows the five star housebuilder supported 1,400 jobs in the area in 2015.

Sales director Andrea Pilgrim said: “This is great news for the local employment market and what’s even better is that the benefits to the economy will be felt even after the development is finished. Past experience shows us that the people who move into new developments tend to spend their wages locally, contributing to the economy even further.”

Last year Barratt Homes estimated that residents moving into its new communities in the area covered by the Bristol division spent an additional £9.4 million in local shops and services.

“This translates into a significant boost for local retailers and it’s exactly what this area needs,’’ added Andrea. “It’s rewarding to see that our new development will have a positive impact on the local economy as well as provide much-needed homes.”

Northwalls Grange is set to feature 135 new homes offering a range of two, three and four bedroom properties surrounded by open countryside as work gets underway on the new community.
