Sales at Hendy Group reflect national rise

South coast based Hendy Group says the highest September sales on record nationally reflects its performance last month.

Figures released from the Society of Manufacturers and Traders reveal that car sales so far this year have passed the two million mark with 496,696 sold in September.

The company operates 12 motor franchises at 25 locations in Hampshire, Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Devon.

Hendy Group chief executive Paul Hendy said sales nationally were up 2.6 per cent with the Ford Fiesta the top selling car in the country last month and overall so far this year.

“The arrival of the new number plate always gives the market a boost but overall the figures reflect a steady market and we are certainly seeing strong sales across the region and in all sectors in which we operate.”

Paul said the recent arrival of new models, increasing interest in the latest technology and alternative fuels had all helped to create a strong month for sales.

Highlights for Hendy included Kia which recorded its second best month ever nationally with sales up 10 per cent on the same time last year.

“Sales of the new Sportage which was launched at the start of the year continue to gather pace which really helped boost Kia sales,’’ said Paul.

It is not just car sales which were strong last month, Hendy Group contributed to Ford taking the top spot in September’s commercial sales too.

“Ford has been a market leader in cars for the last 39 years and commercial vehicles for the last 50 years and continued evolution of products helps us provide customers with a strong range in both markets.”
