20 jobs to be created as waste management business acquires new Sheffield site
A specialist skip hire and waste management business has purchased a 13-acre site in Sheffield to support expansion plans.
Arthur’s Skips has acquired the new site as part of plans to increase its operations with support from NatWest and the Sheffield City Region’s Growth Hub.
Founded in 1994, by Arthur Hartley and his son, James, Arthur’s Skips began trading with two vehicles and eight skips from premises at Warren Street, Sheffield.
The business now operates from three sites, has a fleet of 20 vehicles with more than 1,500 skips, and employ 34 people.
The new site, which is located at The Old Gasworks, Parkwood Road, will be used for its waste management operations to begin with and it is hoped the new site will create more than 20 new jobs in the next three years.
Arthur’s Skips also operates from Hobson Avenue and Neepsend Lane.
Barbara Hartley, director of Arthur’s Skips, said: “The additional site gives us much more room to develop the business and expand our operations.
“It’s an exciting addition to our property portfolio and will help us to better serve our customers.”
As for funding, James turned to NatWest relationship director Martin Gorman who secured a loan to facilitate the purchase.
Sheffield City Region Growth Hub’s Access to Finance programme also provided a grant through the Business Investment Fund for the purchase as part of Arthur’s Skip’s commitment to creating jobs in the region.
Barbara added: “Martin and the team at NatWest have been excellent to work with. The purchase of the site was something we were looking at for some time and Martin provided excellent support throughout the process.”
Martin also said: “It’s an exciting time for Arthur’s Skips with the addition of the new site which will play an important part in the firm’s expansion plans.
“The management team have a clear plan for where they want to take the business and we wish the business every success for the future.”
The deal was also supported by Andrew McKenna on behalf of the Sheffield City Region Growth Hub’s Access to Finance Centre, Andrew Godsall from Knight Frank, Bejul Lakhani from Taylor & Emmet Solicitors who acted on behalf of NatWest, and Les Saunders and Helen Grant from Anderson Partnership and Mark Jenkinson, Sochall Smith, who acted on behalf of Arthur’s Skips.
