Jomast closes deal on new Northallerton retail unit

LEADING North East property company Jomast Developments has completed work on a brand new retail unit for Marks and Spencer in Northallerton.

The new store, which sits on the site of the former Rutson Hospital, provides a more substantial, purpose-built space in the centre of the historic market town. The space will be a dedicated M&S Simply Food store, also featuring a cafe, and will replace the retail giant’s existing unit at 119a High Street.

This project is one of a number of retail developments which Jomast Developments has undertaken in the past 12 months, collectively worth over £20 million.

The news comes just months after Marks and Spencer announced it was to trial larger food halls across the country.

Adam Hearld, Development Director at Jomast said: “We’ve been building supermarkets and retail units for a number of years and as the sector has changed, so has our business. We have adapted as customers’ demands have changed, retailers no longer need large format stores so we’ve aligned ourselves with their new requirements.

“The new M&S store is a welcome addition for Northallerton town centre and will significantly improve retail provision in the area. It will also create new employment opportunities for the local community and secure M&S’s long-term future to the town”.

The new store is set to open its doors later this week, on Wednesday 12th October 2016.

Rob Murray, head of property planning from Marks & Spencer also added: “We’re looking forward to opening our new store in Northallerton and improving the range and services we offer to our local customers.”

Jomast is one of the UK’s leading property development, investment and regeneration companies with commercial and residential real estate assets in excess of £250 million.
