A CGI of Mulbury's Ancoats PRS scheme

Plans submitted for £35m Ancoats apartment scheme

Cheshire-based developer Mulbury has submitted plans for its second build-to-rent scheme in the centre of Manchester.

The £35m project would see 145 apartments delivered on a 0.24-hectare site where Blossom Street meets Great Ancoats Street.

Mulbury is looking to create 49 one-bedroom and 95 two-bedroom apartments, along with one three-bedroom apartment, across two eight-storey buildings.

Further, the scheme includes 6,135 sq ft of commercial space, ground floor reception and concierge areas, car parking facilities and cycle space.

Manchester-based Tim Groom Architects designed the scheme, while Deloitte Real Estate provided planning advice.

To ensure the development complements the wider Ancoats conservation area, Mulbury consulted Manchester City Council, Historic England and Places Matter, an organisation set up to generate a sense of place in the North West’s living, working and leisure environments.

Mulbury City head James Alderson said: “This site is in a great location to provide high-quality city living on the doorstep of the Northern Quarter.

“We believe it will contribute enormously to the ongoing resurgence of Ancoats as a vibrant city centre neighbourhood.”

The director of Tim Groom Architects, Tim Groom, commented: “I am very pleased we are submitting the plans for Blossom Street.

“We have been careful and thoughtful throughout our design process and believe we have created a fantastic development which while providing great new homes to rent, also fits in with its historic surroundings while adding a thoroughly modern stamp to them.”

The land chosen for the development is a partially vacant site housing a surface-level car park and derelict electricity substation.
