Vulcan XH558 to welcome families at special event

FAMILIES from across the region are being invited to a special event to see Vulcan XH558 at her home in Doncaster.

Following the success of the summer family event, which saw hundreds of people travel from across the country, this second Family Day has been added to the events calendar at the Vulcan Experience at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

Families are invited to visit XH558, which was the last flying Avro Vulcan, on November 6, and enjoy an up close experience of her giant delta wings.

The day-long event runs from 10:30am until 4pm, and visitors will be able to stand under the open bomb bay doors, peer up the crew ladder into the cockpit and look at the wide range of Vulcan artefacts on display, many of which have been sourced from the crew’s private collections.

Ian Straw, director of operations, Vulcan Experience, said: “We were absolutely thrilled by the amount of visitors who came to our summer event and are really looking forward to welcoming visitors to this special Family Day.

“XH558 is a star attraction and it is not every day that you get to see such a significant part of our history up close. The event will take place in the modernised World War II hangar from which the Vulcan operated during much of the Cold War, and she is one of the most iconic examples of British technology.

“XH558 is owned by a charity that depends on public support to maintain her and to build a brighter future for a new generation of engineers.

“From experience we know that this will be a great day out for families who want to experience something truly spectacular.”

Tickets for the Family Day cost £5 for adults and children go free
