New Killingworth Lidl store to create 40 jobs

North East construction and facilities management firm Taemar Ltd has started work on a new Lidl store in Killingworth, which will create 40 new jobs upon opening in Spring next year.

Set to be built in Comet Row at the Stephenson Industrial Estate, this is Taemar’s second multi-million pound contract with the supermarket giant after it won a contract to build a Lidl Blyth outlet.

Formerly known as Adderstone Construction Ltd and a subsidiary of Adderstone Group, Taemar will undertake the full design and build which will support up to 200 construction related jobs throughout the build.

Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, David Murphy, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start the build.

“We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”

The new store layout will be 2470m2 including a sales area of 1424m2. There will be 128 car parking spaces and 9 parking spaces for those with disabled badges as well as dedicated parent-and-child parking.

Taemar Ltd’s Managing Director, Rob Wilson said: “To win this contract so soon after our appointment at Blyth has been a fantastic achievement and testament to the confidence Lidl have in the Taemar team.

“We are delighted to be working with Lidl on what is an important development for Killingworth and a significant contract win for Taemar Ltd.”
