Time Out is plotting a permanent indoor market in the heart of Shoreditch

Global media group Time Out has announced it has obtained a conditional lease agreement for a new market in Shoreditch, following on from similar markets in Portugal.

The food and cultural venue is set to be housed at 106 Commercial Street subject to planning approval for the site, and will feature a selection of the capital’s best food, drink and cultural establishments.

Encompassing 19,250 sq ft, Time Out Market will include 17 restaurants, a cooking academy, four bars, a shop and an art gallery along with 450 seats for diners and revellers.

Time Out has said it hopes to open the new venue by the second half of 2017.

It will be the first time the group, which is headquartered in London, has brought one of its markets to the capital following its successful flagship market in Lisbon and the planned opening of another in Porto, along with markets in New York and Miami in the coming months.

Julio Bruno, Chief Executive Officer of Time Out Group, commented: “I’m absolutely delighted to announce that we will be bringing our unique Time Out Market format to London.

“This is not only one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting cities, but also the birthplace of our iconic brand. Opening a Time Out Market here is an incredible milestone for our brand and our growth strategy.”

Time Out anticipates that the new facility will bring ‘employments’ and ‘wider benefits’ to the city, and has pledged to work closely with local businesses in the creation and curation of its dining line up.

Outlining the group’s vision for the venue, Didier Souillat, CEO of Time Out Market, added: “Our focus is to work with London restaurateurs, mixologists, artists, and provide them with the opportunity to showcase their talent in a different, hot and eclectic part of town, Shoreditch, in a space full of character, at the heart of the local community.”
