First Residents Move in at Trent Basin
The very first residents have moved in to their new home at Trent Basin, one of Nottingham’s best located contemporary residential developments, and part of the £250 million regeneration of the Waterside area in Nottingham.
Brian Wooding, and his partner Sue Flack, have moved into a three bedroom, three storey home on the newly created Portside Street, and were welcomed by Pete Conboy from Blueprint, the specialist regeneration developers of the Trent Basin scheme. More new residents are expected to move in to Trent Basin in the coming weeks.
Brian and Sue’s new home is located on the lip of the Basin – an integral focal point of the development which embraces the industrial heritage of the site where boats would navigate along the Trent with cargo. Their home also has a terrace which opens out on to the stunning views of the inland dock as well as the cityscape to the north.
Brian said: “We have downsized from a 4 bedroom Edwardian property in Mapperley Park. The environmentally friendly, low energy living was one of the main reasons for moving here. It was a big consideration for us. We liked the concept of the housing and were interested in Blueprint’s other sustainable developments at Green Street in the Meadows and Hobart & Pitcairn but the timing wasn’t right for us. So we have kept a keen eye on Trent Basin before building even started.”
Location was another reason why the couple chose to move to Trent Basin. “We came along to the launch of the new show home to see how far the development had come. We like its riverside location and the fact that the Basin is a major part of the overall design. How many places in Nottingham have this right on their doorstep? I am looking forward to more residents moving in and the community it will create,” he added.
Phase One of Trent Basin comprises 45 contemporary, low energy homes including eight waterside apartments with a mix of 2-5 bedroom properties. Fifty per cent of the properties have been reserved in Phase One and designs for Phase 2 are in the advanced stages of planning. The homes will appeal to a diverse range of home buyers from young professionals, growing families as well as those looking to downsize. Property prices start from £225,000 to £400,000 and the Help to Buy scheme is available.
Pete Conboy, project director at Trent Basin, said: “We are creating a sustainable community here at Trent Basin. A lot of time and investment has gone into the urban design, architecture and proposition of the development – like the curvature of Navigation Street to provide views of the River Trent along the streetscape. The properties have super insulated and airtight building structures which perform up to 30 per cent better than the building regulation requirements. We are also investing in the introduction of a community energy system which aims to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions; it should start being introduced towards the end of 2016.
“We are keen to explore new opportunities for the Basin such as a floating café in the Basin, and the possibility of having power hubs for electric cars. Our aim is to have a neighbourhood which thrives and evolves and enjoys the benefits of low energy living.
“It’s great to have Brian and Sue moving in to their new home and kick start the creation of a new community here which will transform this part of Nottingham. As more residents move in over the next few weeks, the concept of Trent Basin really comes to life. This project has been a vision of Nottingham City Council and Blueprint for many years, and to have new residents move in is a new chapter in this once underutilised part of Nottingham.”
All homes come with modern high quality, energy saving aluminium and wood windows from Velfac, sanitary ware from Roca’s Senso range and kitchens from Symphony.
The show home is now open for those who are interested to see first-hand the lifestyle Trent Basin has to offer. Please book an appointment with the agents FHP Living on 0115 841 1155 and Royston & Lund on 0115 981 1888. Potential home owners will be able to get a view of the new streetscape which leads to the waterfront and to get a look at the tall, contemporary homes inspired by European canal houses.
