New Everton stadium: Plans gather pace as Moshiri visits brownfield sites
Everton’s plans to move from their historic Goodison Park home will gather pace this week as major shareholder Farhad Moshiri visits the two sites being considered for the new stadium.
The billionaire businessman will this Friday (October 14) lead an Everton delegation to Bramley Moore dock on the city’s waterfront and Stonebridge Cross in Croxteth.
Mr Moshiri and Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright have been in talks with Liverpool City Council and Peel Group, which owns the dockland site, over the proposals for a number of months.
According to The Guardian, the visits are indicative of both the council and the club’s determination to come to a final decision in the next few months.
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson took to social media in August to tell fans the proposals were moving forward, tweeting: “It’s closer now than it was last month and closer now than it’s ever been.
“All working hard to make it happen.”
Everton must however meet Peel’s financial demands for the waterfront site before a breakthrough can be made.
Last month it was revealed that Peel wants around £30m for the docklands site.
While Bramley Moore is known to be the preferred option, the site will require significant enabling works to prepare it for the new stadium.
The Stonebridge Cross land, meanwhile, is ready for development.
