Stairlift double donation is a gift for patients

Steeton-based Acorn Stairlifts, a world leader in stairlift manufacture and supply, has been thanked by staff at the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh after a double donation enabled two people to be cared for at home.

The unique charity partnership, which has seen two Acorn stairlifts installed free of charge in the homes of families supported by the Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh which supports people living with a terminal illness by giving them the choice of being cared for at home. The initiative aims to deliver and install stairlifts for up to 60 people each year in their own homes across the UK.

The Munro family, based in Edinburgh, benefited from one of the donations which enabled Mr Munro to return to the family home.

Son Scott Munro said: “The stairlift has been absolutely fantastic. My dad had been spending full days either upstairs or downstairs. With the help of Acorn’s stairlift, he now has the freedom of choosing where he wants to be – whether it’s watching TV with the family or going back upstairs to bed. The stairlift simply makes life easier at a difficult time and importantly, means dad can be cared for at home. It’s just been brilliant.”

Acorn Stairlifts has been manufacturing and installing stairlifts for more than 20 years and employs over 800 people in the UK. It has recently been named International Business of the Year at the UK Private Business Awards.
