Vinci Construction to carry out £60m renovation work at historic Hyde Park hotel
Construction and facilities firm Vinci Construction has been awarded the contract for major renovation work at the Mandarin Oriental in Hyde Park.
The project will see 120,000 sq ft of the upmarket hotel renovated, which includes all of property’s rooms and public areas.
According to Construction Enquirer, the £60m refurbishment work on the 5-star Knightsbridge hotel will occur over two nine month phases, with the first phase focusing on the hotel’s Knightsbridge wing and the second phase involving the rooms overlooking Hyde Park.
Working under its new Vendi brand, Vinci will also build two penthouse suites on the 9th floor roof while the hotel will remain open throughout the length of the works.
The hotel itself has stood on the site since 1902 when it opened as the Hyde Park Hotel with the last extensive refurbishment of the Edwardian building carried out in 2000.
Commenting when the refurbishment works were initially announced, a spokesperson for Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park said the project would ‘confirm Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s European flagship hotel as one of the leading luxury hotels in the world’.
