Deadline to enter Shell Springboard one week away!

Calling low-carbon entrepreneurs: deadline for Shell Springboard 2017 just one week away (28th October 2016)!

Applications for the Shell Springboard programme, which supports UK businesses with bright solutions to reduce carbon emissions, will close on Friday, 28 October 2016 at 5pm.

Successful applicants will be shortlisted for two regional finals, meeting judging panels in Aberdeen and Cambridge in March 2017 to pitch their businesses to a panel of experts and investors in the low-carbon sector. A total funding amount of £350,000 is available to the winners.

At each event, three regional winners will be awarded equity-free funding of £40,000 each. These six regional winners will then go forward to the national final, which will be held in London and where one business will be crowned the national winner of Shell Springboard and receive additional funding of £110,000.

Since launching in 2005, the programme has awarded more than £3.5 million to 92 enterprises at the cutting edge of the low-carbon economy. Almost 80% of supported companies remain in operation five years after starting-up, in contrast to a national average of about 45%. Previous winners include GravityLight, which developed technology to generate light from gravity and bio-bean, a company that industrialised the process to recycle waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels.
