Manchester Science Partnerships showcases £60m Citylabs investment at US medtech exhibition

North West science park operator Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP) has joined a trade delegation to the US medical technology event AdvaMed.

MSP managing director Tom Renn and the organisation’s head of partnerships and innovation, Anne Dornan, are with representatives of the city region’s inward investment agency MIDAS, the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and other Health Innovation Manchester partners at the Minneapolis-based conference and exhibition.

At AdvaMed, MSP will showcase its plan to invest £60m in expanding its Citylabs biomedical facility over the next five years.

Tom Renn said: “We launched Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 this summer at ESOF, when the scientific world came to Manchester, so it is important and appropriate that we continue to showcase Manchester’s attributes as a hub for science, clinical research, collaboration and of course commercialisation to a global audience.

“AdvaMed is a great opportunity to network and showcase our developments and highlight the success of Citylabs 1.0 – which is fully let.”

Speaking further, Tom said MSP will use AdvaMed to talk about how businesses at Citylabs “have grown and benefitted from being able to access the research and clinical trial capabilities that Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) provides”.

He continued: “The key message is that Manchester can offer international healthcare and life sciences businesses not only great physical facilities but a stimulating, collaborative and enterprising clinical environment.

“Our investment in expanding Citylabs will provide significant additional space and enable biomedical companies to grow and co-create new health products, in collaboration with the NHS and academia.”

Following the Minneapolis event, the Manchester delegation will head to Chicago and Boston as part of a roadshow held in conjunction with the Department for International Trade.

In 2015, AdvaMed attracted over 2,300 delegates representing 900 businesses and organisations.
