Gaming merchandise startup triples floorspace following Jarrow relocation

Rubber Road, the gaming merchandise business, has taken a new warehouse in South Tyneside as part of a wholesale relocation of its storage and distribution facilities.

The Hertfordshire-headquartered business has purchased a 16,000 sq ft property in Jarrow, which is triple the size of its current facility in Hull, and plans to expand its research, development and design team at the Rolling Mill Road premises with the potential for new job creation in the area.

The move came about after one Rubber Road’s directors took up residence in the North East, and hopes to fuel the firm’s UK-wide expansion from the region.

Industrial property firm, HTA Real Estate, acquired the property on behalf of the startup for £500k and Nick Atkinson, who is director at the firm, said the premises were an ‘ideal solution’.

He said: “[Rubber Road] had a requirement for a storage and distribution facility but also wanted a larger than average amount of office space to house their expanding design team and the building was already ideally set up to cater for their needs.

“We are delighted to have been able to assist them with their expansion and relocation to the North East.”

Founded in 2012 by Ben Grant and Matt Precious, Rubber Road develops and designs merchandise for the videogames industry, and has also developed its own range of merchandise under the Numskull brand.

Managing Partner Matt, said: “We are delighted HTA introduced us to this property, it offers an ideal logistical location close to the A19 for distribution and also provides the right balance of office and warehousing space.

“We are also looking into taking advantage of its close proximity to the Port of Tyne to use as a drop-off location for our goods being shipped from China.”
